TextBuyIt lets Amazon customers shop at anytime, anywhere

Amazon.com wishes you to purchase things using your mobile phone, especially if you’re all thumbs. The e-commerce firm introduced a new service called ‘TextBuyIt’, which allows customers with Amazon accounts to locate and purchase products through Amazon’s web site.

“With the launch of TextBuyIt, any Amazon.com member can now employ a mobile device for shopping and buying from Amazon.com, at anytime, anywhere” stated the director of Amazon Mobile Payments, Howard Gefen. He added. “With TextBuyIt, if you are walking out of a concert and wish to buy a CD from the artist you just liked, or if you are at dinner and a friend informs you about an interesting book you must read, all you need to do is bring out your mobile device, dispatch a text message to Amazon, reply back to the response, just confirm your order, and in no time, your item will be on its way.”

Amazon states that using only text messages, and in under a minute, a customer can locate a product and buy it through the mobile phone. However, the lack of contextual information beyond mere items and prices can perhaps lead to confusion.

  1. This was tried before (Reporo) and failed there, too. Who’d ever do that! Typing in a credit card number is painful enough on its own..
