StumbleUpon incorporates comments and Facebook in its web-based recommendations

StumbleUpon, an application used for rating and discovering web content is enhancing its web experience. As a part of its growth outside its proprietary toolbar, StumbleUpon is updating its web based interface with fresh content sharing tools and Facebook compatibility.

StumbleUpon basically functions as a recommendation engine for sites and web pages. Earlier, users needed to install a toolbar for rating sites or recommending them to other users.

Eventually, the service aggregated the ratings of users and the suggestions of their friends from the toolbar to suggest relevant sites of interest.

StumbleUpon launched its web based version of the application by opening up its recommendation engine.

Users can log in and access their preferences from any web browser or computer. Users can even share recommended sites with their friends on Facebook. There is also a simple comment feature to discuss rated sites. For instance, if a user wishes to share a recent news story like the swine fly hysteria, they can deal with both the tasks using StumbleUpon’s new interface.

The basic aim is to make StumbleUpon more ‘social’. It is already using its vast reserves of data for delivering targeted ads. The modifications to its new web based program might lead to a fresh influx of data, mainly because it permits users to use the service across various platforms.

  2. I haven’t use the web based tool bar and decided to check it out after seeing your post. I think the web based tool bar will help increase stumbleupon users because they don’t have to install anything and the facebook share option is only available in web based tool bar.Might switch to the web based toolbar :)
