Return of the Google Dance Syndrome

The Google Dance Syndrome has apparently come back and as a result, for some search terms, some websites have lost their top positions last month. For those who may not know, Google Dance refers to a change in Google’s ranking algorithm, which ends up showing different results.

However, unlike previous outbreaks, results can be compared from “old” to “new” Google using an existent ‘cure’. Although Google denies it, some marketers believe that the recent changes are designed to boost ad sales.

Webmasters and search engine marketers often criticise Google every time it makes a change in the manner pages are ranked, often pointing out examples where Google’s search has failed in terms of relevancy. But, there have also been instances of Google’s new system succeeding significantly. Hence it becomes difficult to say whether the criticism is correct or not.

The obsession with Google’s algorithms is always higher than other search engines, simply because of the sheer traffic Google brings to a website.
