Nickelodeon launches new sites for web-enabled phones

MTV Networks’ Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids & Family Group has launched three new mobile web sites that aim to reach out to kids, teens and parents. These sites will offer easily accessible branded content from Nickelodeon to cell phone users on their web-enabled devices. These sites can be accessed at wap.nick.com, and will feature exciting content, such as pictures, polls, flipbooks and show/schedule information.

According to Nielsen’s Kids on the Go Study, teens 8-12 spend almost 3.4 hours a week on mobile sites. Steve Youngwood, executive vice president of digital media at Nickelodeon, stated the network is following the conventional linear TV & web approach to reach out to its target audience. “We’ll selectively promote this online via some of our web sites and on-air,” he stated. “We’ll be running an on-air promo beginning next week around voting via the Nick mobile site for the 2008 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards.”

These web sites also include various games, including a TeeNick ‘Who is It’ picture game, an Avatar: The Last Airbender game, a SpongeBob SquarePants personality quiz and classic puzzle games, such as Tic-Tac-Toe and Hangman. Nick also plans to launch additional mini-sites, which would focus on popular and periodic TV events.
