NetFlix movies can be watched on Macs

October 9, 2008

Video on Demand (VoD) has seen a surge in the last few years. There have been new entrants, yet the main players have managed to maintain their stronghold. But there has been constant innovation and advancements due to the competition. One of the world’s largest online movie rental services, Netflix, has expansion plans. As per the expansion plans Netflix will be offering Mac owners with some of the finest movies though their streaming service. Apple Macintosh computer owners will be able to enjoy a host of movies by the end of the year.

This move comes as Netflix aims at expanding beyond the video-by-mail roots.
Plus it faces stiff competition from set-top box movie providers and needs to innovate to stay right on top. The company has got into a deal with Microsoft enabling Xbox 360 owners to watch movies streamed through the games console.

Netflix has even cracked an agreement with movie channel Starz. They will be adding about 1,000 movies, which users could access through their PCs or the Netflix set-top player. They could even purchase a new Blu-ray Network player (manufactured by LG).

The company announced the expansion plan in its blog.
