MySpace shedding ‘a place for friends’ tag and 100 London staff

MySpace is lagging behind in the Internet race for quite some time now. In May Facebook had overtaken MySpace with 51bn views and 123m visitors. The statistics of MySpace for the month of May was only 45bn page views and 114m visitors. Naturally, a change was expected at MySpace.

MySpace has now announced that it will cut its London staff from 150 to only 50. Some major changes will also take place in the core management of MySpace UK as Anthony Lukom the current UK MySpace Managing Director will be replaced by the Managing Director of MySpace Europe, Rebekah Horne.

MySpace UK has also announced that it will eliminate its tag ‘a place for friends’ from its key logo as a measure to try and recover the social networking site’s current position. The staff cut that MySpace is about to do is expected to affect different parts of the website’s working.

In some aspects MySpace is shedding its whole department and outsourcing the job to an external agency. The public relations department of MySpace has undergone a change in this line. MySpace is shedding excess staff all over the world and trying to bring in some major changes in order to compete better against rival sites like Facebook and Twitter.
