MySpace set to launch new Developer Platform for site users

March 1, 2008

The leading social networking website, MySpace, is all set to launch its new enhanced developer platform. The new MySpace Developer Platform, in all probability, will go live in the month of March. The launch will lead to the creation of specific applications, which are well compatible with OpenSocial standard of Google. This follows the successful launching of Facebook’s own platform in 2007.

The MySpace website users will now be able to add several utility email services, games and many other relevant widgets to their respective profiles with no need to use any external websites owing to the new Developer Platform. It will be possible for developers to test their applications on maximum five MySpace users every month before they are rolled out for a full-fledged launch.

MySpace users will be provided access to data, which is publicly available on all registered profiles. Users can limit its visibility by opting to change their account settings for only their friends to view their profile. Apart from this, a security feature will make use of a technology termed Kaja developed by Google. According to, Kyle Brinkman of MySpace, this will eliminate code vulnerabilities.
