Mozilla Extend Firefox 3 contest winners

Mozilla had a contest called Extend Firefox 3 going under which they commissioned six judges to choose the best extensions (add-ons, social application, etc.). There were around 100 entries out of which seven were chosen as the grand prize winners within three categories: Best updated add-on, Best music add-on and Best new add-on (two of them had three first-place winners each).

The winners in the ‘Best new category’ can choose any Mozilla Developer Day and get free travel and accommodation along with software. The winners in the ‘Best updated category’ get a new Macbook Pro. The winners in the ‘Best music category’ travel to Last.fm headquarters in London and also get to attend a Last.fm Presents show.

The Best updated add-ons are as follows:

TagSifter – bookmarks can be tagged for easier browsing.
Read it Later – interesting pages can be saved to view later.
Bookmark Previews – album and thumbnail view can be added to bookmark manager.

The Best music add-on is:

Fire.fm – Last.fm, the site can be accessed.

The Best new add-ons are as follows:
Tagmarks – tags bookmarks in a single click.
HandyTag – tags bookmarks automatically.
Pencil – uses the “SVG support in Firefox 3 to implement all the shape rendering and scripting” for GUI prototyping and diagramming.

The judges also announced the following runners up in the ‘Best new add-on’ category:
Webchunks – implements Internet Explorer Webslices.
Badges on Favicons – provides information badges to the graphics.
Devo – command launcher for the band. (some are saying the band is no more while some say they are).
Close ‘n Forget – erases all trace of the visit to the site once it is closed.
Callout – OS’ notification services for Greasemonkey scripts and webpages.
Reasy – a RSVP reading add-on.
