Keystream Launches SmartAd

November 21, 2008

California based Keystream recently released its SmartAd program that offers advertisers the option to place ads on empty spaces directly during the video. In a press release, the company declared that the new software as a service (SaaS) platform is the first one to give publishers and advertisers the opportunity to monetise their video by placing ads on blank spaces.

In that case, a vast span of blue sky, an empty green field and a blank white wall in the corner of the video could now be covered by advertisers placing their logos or interactive ads on top. The company also said that the service would improve the user response to web video. This would result in higher click-through rates compared to other traditional advertising such as banners. Giving the example of the global economic slowdown, Keystream said that the new platform would assist advertisers with falling revenue to improve efficiency and returns from their own ads.

SmartAd technology allows users to start and stop videos if they choose to click on an ad so that they don’t have to miss any part of the video they are watching. The program analyses the video to make space to add the advertisements. Publishers and advertisers can review where the ads are being placed before the video is released.
