Google launches lively- 3d virtual world

July 15, 2008

Lively is Google’s own 3D Virtual World that has been launched. Probably one of the most popular “3D Virtual World” creations is Second Life, it is also probably the first thing most likely to come to one’s mind upon hearing the term “3D Virtual World”.

Even though Google’s Lively looks and feels like Second Life, it lacks in 3D environment. But this is something which can be expected to change considering the fact that Lively is still in its early stages. Add-on features and enhancements will definitely be part of the plan for Google.

As of now Google’s Lively offers the following features:

  • Users can create their own avatars along with their avatar’s rooms.
  • Users can use their own photos and videos to customise their avatar.
  • It supports YouTube video embedding.
  • Users’ virtual rooms can be embedded into blogs and websites.
  • Chat is possible with other avatars whose room the user visits or if they visit the user’s room.
  • Adding avatars as contacts and also keep track of their friends - through the virtual world that Lively offers.
