Google’s global search numbers decline in Feb
February has been an unpleasant month for Google as its share of the global Web search market dipped in comparison to January; ComScore search market data has shown. U.S. searches done through Google went down from 6.14 billion to 5.86 billion in February, and similar trends were observed with the worldwide volume of searches.
Google is still at the top of the charts above, yet again, the other four major search engines. Not even the order of their rankings has changed from previous months.
Jefferies & Co analyst Youssef Squali said, “We are continuing to see deceleration in growth in Web search. Google’s month-over-month 5 percent decline is a little surprising, but all of the major Web search names were down.”
Although Google’s share of the total searches conducted went up from January to February from 58.2% to 59.2%, the number of search queries has gone down by 5%.
Yahoo!, who came second even with total searches conducted dropping to 21.6% from 22.2%, was the biggest loser in the number of queries with an 8% loss. Microsoft’s total searches conducted went down to 9.6% from 9.8% along with the numbers going down 7%. AOL, stuck to its 4th spot, with total searches conducted remaining at 4.9% and Ask Network showed an increase from 4.5% to 4.6% but both AOL and Ask showed a drop of 5% in numbers.
