Facebook reveals its new privacy options

Facebook, the social networking giant is once again planning to overhaul its privacy controls. Chris Kelly, the Chief Privacy Officer, in a recent company blog post said that their latest privacy options would be specially intended to provide a greater control to users over the information they shared with others.

Kelly also wrote that the power of sharing is the keystone of Facebook. At the heart of trust, sharing particular information with others is a major tailoring tool for privacy. In order to enhance privacy, the company is also offering a single page to its users from where they can apply the required privacy settings.

Moreover, the company is also preparing to incorporate a single drop-down menu for published items that will enable users to set access rules on individual items. For a long time, privacy settings have been a point of argument between Facebook and their user base. The company experienced a privacy protest in 2007 when it revealed its controversial Beacon advertising tool.

Recently, Facebook was also forced to back-pedal on its terms and conditions. While the managers and administrators are concerned about productivity and the security risks of Facebook and many other networking services, the users also run the possibility of embarrassing postings and photos being spotted by perspective and current employers.
