Digg is a social news website where the running order of the stories is decided by the user votes, popularly known as “Diggs”. The social news website recently reached its 5 year anniversary. So far, the social news website has relied on content submitted by their own users. However, with the increasing trend of real-time aggregation, the website is now considering the idea of expanding its reach.
The founder of the news aggregation site, Kevin Rose said that they have to look at different sources of information. If they are seeing a trend on Twitter, they can easily map that to the best stories on Digg. Moreover, if there are other things happening on Facebook or any other networks, they want to pull that in too.
Rose has been further developing the site over the past 12 months, launching a fresh, innovative ad platform as well as adding the trending topics in order to increase the speed at which the developing stories can be brought to user’s attention.
By the end of last year, real-time search has become one of the biggest themes on the internet. This is because of the fact that search engines such as Microsoft’s Bing and Google rushed to add Facebook, MySpace and Twitter updates onto their result pages.
