Beta version of Yahoo Web Analytics makes its debut

October 13, 2008

Yahoo has finally re-branded Index Tools and launched it as Yahoo Web Analytics, a free service. Index Tools was acquired by Yahoo in April and this launch was much expected. Currently, the service is in Beta and is available to only a select group of third-party application developers and Yahoo advertisers.

According to the official Yahoo Web Analytics website, the tool will offer real time insights into websites’ visitor behaviour. The tool will be able to give publishers detailed site metrics within minutes of visitors accessing the website. This means unlike other analytics products, which update user behaviour data only after 24-48 hours, Yahoo Web Analytics will be able to offer the same within minutes.

Apart from a host of standard reporting formats, the tools offer immense flexibility to create a customised report based on specific requirements. Various filters and segmentation selectors are the additional interesting features of the tool. Analytics tools will be tied on to users overall Yahoo accounts. This means users can use a single Yahoo sign in name to access and operate the analytics account and other Yahoo services as well. Yahoo is expected to roll out the tool in a phased manner.
