The leading search engine, Ask, has just launched a comprehensive news site titled BigNews. Ask has started the site in collaboration with a popular community information website Digg. It’s among the web’s most popular and noteworthy social bookmarking destinations. Users are allowed to actually ‘digg’ news stories they find interesting and then share them with other like-minded readers. This element of interactivity made possible through it has been the major feature of BigNews, which it has tried to build on and capitalise.

Ask’s site employs technology termed ‘the BigFactor’ for ranking stories on basis of parameters like quantity, impact of multimedia, freshness of content and amount of related debate or discussion. The search engine denotes the services as a reliable means of assisting internet users to help track the most popular stories. Users can monitor them through the site and also follow their logical progression. They can also discover the videos and know about the important personalities in spotlight. They can get additional background material on searches, among other relevant things. It offers category clusters and lets users browse by ‘no Diggs’ and ‘top Diggs’, while also comprising a ‘Blogviews’ area, which highlights the latest posts from some select blogs.
