Since working as an SEO programmer, I have come across many content management systems that do not employ many of the key SEO techniques. However, I have recently come across one such content management system called “X-Cart” that can be upgraded to be search engine friendly.
X-Cart is naturally quite poor when it comes to SEO, as only the home page meta information can be changed. Yet it does have the ability to be upgraded using separate paid plug-ins. One of the most popular plug-ins is called CDSEO which will allow you to implement site-wide meta keywords, titles and descriptions, not only for top level category pages but also for secondary level and third level individual product pages as well. This makes it a very good choice if you are thinking of optimising your inner product pages as well as your home page. It also has the option for creating robots.txt files and a dynamically generated XML sitemap for the search engines that will help your internal pages to get indexed. The only down side is that it does not create a dynamic HTML sitemap for the site’s users, but this can be created statically using online generation tools.
In conclusion, if you are using, or thinking of using the X-Cart content management system, then this plug-in is definitely one worth investing in. It provides an excellent range of SEO features that will greatly improve the chances of gaining higher rankings by the search engine.
