Wordpress 2.6 New Features

As most of you are aware that new version of wordpress (2.6) has been released and it’s available now. It’s almost one month ahead of schedule. There are many new features and improvements in this version, but the following are some key features of wordpress 2.6.

Shift Gear:

Gear is an open source browser extension which helps users to use powerful web applications, by adding new features to their web browser. Wordpress 2.6 uses Gears to keep a copy of commonly-used JavaScript and style sheets on your computer which can speed up the loading of web pages.

Theme Preview:

In Wordpress 2.6 when you select a theme it pops up a window which shows you that theme live with all your content, instead of making it live immediately on your website. So you can preview a theme before actually putting it on your website. I have used it myself and I found it helpful, especially if you are developing a theme and want to test it rather than making it live when it is not yet complete.

Post Revisions:

Although previous versions of Wordpress do provide the facility to auto save, Wordpress 2.6 has gone one step further and now using an easy interface it shows you who has made changes and when to a post, just like Wikipedia.

Some small features of wordpress 2.6 include Word count, Plug-in update notification bubble, bulk management of plug-ins and image captions.
