Word Press Static Pages

April 1, 2008

With consideration to Pauls post on Getting a new site indexed in Google quickly. I would like to point your attention to Word Press.

A Majority of users tend to publish their content using the post functionality and neglect the ability to post static pages. Like posts static pages can be created in the Wordpress admin system very simply.

For search engine optimisation purposes create some static pages about your website. Google can then index these static pages allowing users to find more generalised information about your company

Although posts do increase traffic, static pages generally create a lower bounce rate as users are looking for your company. They are therefore more likely to browse your products and services, rather than reading just one article.

When you are implementing your site consider the following static pages.

About Page
Obviously this page is a must. This page holds content related to your website. Content can inform the user on what your website achieves for example ?what is the blog based on??. By creating an impressive about page users may be attracted to subscribe to your blog.
Contact Page
What happens if a user wants to contact you for some reason? How will they do it? By creating a contact page users can find a list of contact details for all user accounts within Word Press.
404 error Page
When a page is not found on the website why not redirect to a 404 error page. Instead of creating a generalised page try and point the user in the right direction or at least create some sort of interesting content. After all if Google has indexed a deleted page this is the first error the user will be given.
