Triangle Links

Following the Jagger update, many SEOs believe that reciprocal links have been greatly devalued, to stop reciprocal linking being used as a strategy to build PageRank. However, this has inevitably lead to greater interest in “triangle links”.

Triangle links are effectively the same as reciprocal links, but with three sites instead of two. Site A will link to site B, site B will link to site C, and site C will link to site A. This ensures that everyone receives a link (and increase in PageRank), but the links are not seen as reciprocal.

There are a number of problems though. If there are more sites involved, the chain is more likely to collapse, and it will be harder to form these relationships. Also, It seems likely that Google would have the foresight to see this one coming, so whether it will work or not remains to be seen.

  1. I’m sure Google will try to detect triangle links. But, it’s very difficult to do in terms of computer processing. That’s a high-complexity (polynomial complexity) problem known as “cycle detection”.
