The Emergence of New Search Engines
December 19, 2007Here at Just Search much of our efforts are focussed on Google as it holds around 79% of the UK search market. Although Google has dominated the UK market for some time we are starting to see the emergence of new search engines which are bringing new and interesting ideas to the market place.
Two of the most significant new search engines are Hakia and Enetez. Hakia has a sleek and simple design like Google but promises to bring search results by meaning match rather than search term popularity. Hakia claim that their new approach will appeal to those who are involved in researching knowledge intensive subjects. The new search engine also takes a social approach to searching as it has a neat little feature that allows users to meet others who have carried out same queries as they have. This follows in the current trend of social networking.
Enetez has taken an innovative approach to searching by being probably the only search engine in existence that allows for keyboardless searches. This works by a series of drop down boxes. This system has its benefits for example it is quick and easy to carry out regionalised searches and allows users to carryout quite specific searches.
These new search engines play an important role in our industry as they drive forward innovation and change the way search engines and seo professional’s work. Yahoo for example has recently announced that they plan to use Enetez’s search style for some of its queries.
