SMO in 2010

With us now well and truly into 2010, I thought I would give a short assessment as to how Social Media Optimisation will affect Internet Marketing in 2010.

If you are not already aware, Social Media Optimisation is the art of pushing your brand image through social sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr. As well as these social sites, there are websites out there that offer free micro sites, or micro blogs such as WordPress, Sqiudoo, Blogger, and Weebly.

Social Media Optimisation has been around for a while now but has not taken off like a lot of people expected. This year, though, I believe this will change. As everyone will be pushing for more coverage, I believe that SMO will become increasing important. I believe that these three factors below will be influential in 2010.

The Influence

Any social media sites that are out there and have been recognised, such as Twitter or Facebook, already command a very good influence in the market which can be channelled for your benefit.

For example, if you gained say 400 followers on Twitter, you can post a tweet about your company or advertise a product which will be seen by 400 potential clients.

This can be used as a huge selling tool when trying to sell your products and services.

The Inter Linking

As social media websites and micro sites become more influential, plug-ins can be created to interlink these sites. Basically if you create a blog post on a micro site, it will then be posted on such sites as Facebook and Twitter.

The Impact

The impact of Social Media Optimisation will be huge this year. If you sell a product or service on the internet you will have to look long and hard at your SMO campaign as this will become as influential as your SEO campaign.
