Search Engine Strategies New York Day 1

March 19, 2008

I’m James Welch, Head of Research for Getupdated (Just Search). Ill am reporting from the Search Engine Strategies New York expo over the next few days, explaining how the show is going and reporting upon the interviews that I will be doing during that time. I have been in the search industry for a long time and been to various shows like SES and Ad:Tech, but this is my first visit to SES New York.

So, I’ll begin with day 1.

Well, day 1 at Search Engine Strategies New York for me started at 7.30 am and finished 7pm!

After arguing with the intense security guards about me be able to access the floor because I had a speaker’s badge on, I finally made it to find the stand ready for action.

After a short while, I did a video interview with a very nice, but loud chap, Sage Lewis, from WebMarketingWatch, explaining about Just Search’s bleeding-edge SEO Research and Development team. It was a good interview and will be on his site in the next few days.

About 20 minutes later, I did my second interview, this time for Webmasterradio.com, the station that all search engine optimisation guys love to listen to. This interview was mainly discussing the rapid growth of Getupdated, but also touched on the Research and Development element of Just Search and how important it is to the whole Getupdated Group.

Following these interviews, I ran an SEO brainstorming session with a few different companies who were getting very much into the content aspect that I was explaining to them. Anyone who listens to me for more than 10 minutes will know how much I go on about SEO and content.

I continued to draw many weird and wonderful shapes on my magic whiteboards and people seemed to be engrossed. By the end of the day there were about 25 whiteboard sheets across the wall from our stand. Almost everyone that walked past the drawings stop to stare at what they were.

So, a good day from an SEO perspective. Lots more people have become aware of the Just Search/Getupdated brands and plenty of people were informed, and then juiced, by content and how it can help them to have great SEO campaigns.
