Meta Robots Wordpress Plugin

The Meta Robots is another great plugin by Joost de Valk. Wordpress is without doubt the best blogging platform there is. But unfortunately it can produce duplicate content through the categories pages, tags pages, date archives and author archives.

There’s another plugin which addresses the categories, tags, and date archive pages, namely All in One SEO. All in One SEO is probably the best plugin for Meta tags; however it doesn’t address all possible duplicate content scenarios.

The Meta Robots plugin really goes a long way to prevent duplicate content being indexed by Google. Some of the features include:

• Prevents indexing of login, register and admin pages
• Prevents indexing of search results pages
• Prevents indexing of author, date-based, tag and category archives
• Option to add the “noodp” and “noydir” meta tags, which prevents search engines using the description from DMOZ and Yahoo! Directories respectively
• Option to nofollow categories listings in single posts and pages to prevent PageRank leaking to the category pages
• Option to nofollow outbound link on the homepage
• Option to nofollow login and registration links
• It is also possible to edit the robots.txt and .htaccess files from the Meta Robots plugin options page.

Installation is easy, just upload the plugin php file, activate it from Wordpress’ plugin administration page, and configure the plugin to suit your needs. Enjoy!
