Guide to Using Yahoo SeachMonkey to display rich snippits for ecommerce websites

Yahoo SeachMonkey is a service offered by Yahoo to web developers and site owners alike, to display structured data on Yahoo’s serps. This structured data helps to enhance the listing, by providing more useful information about the page directly from Yahoo results pages. The structured data also helps to drive more relevant traffic to their sites, as the sites listing is more visually appealing.

There are 2 types or variation in formats available, “enhanced results” and “infobars”, most ecommerce sites are opting to uses the latter as enhanced results is visually more appealing.

The Enhanced Results display a whole bunch of information directly in full view in Yahoo’s serps. The Infobars display an interactive bar which condenses supplementary information in Yahoo’s serps.

Usage :
You can opt to share the structured data with Yahoo a variety of different content types are available to display a standard enhanced result, alternatively you can use the SearchMonkey developer tool to extract data and build apps to display custom enhanced results.

From a user / searchers perspective and a seo perspective I would initially start by displaying the following info, initially as standard:
• Title – Display the Normal Title.
• Summary – Display the Normal Description.
• Image – Display the image.
• Price – Display the discounted price / new price eg : £50 / £40.
• Telephone – Display company Telephone.
• Link – Display links to top level category, and popular or similar categories.

Then consider customising individual pages to tailor results further where applicable:
• Video – Display a video of product.
• Rating / Reviews – Display 5 Star Rating – and # of reviews.
• Discussions, Events, Local – Display Address, Telephone No.
