Google Tools & Search Features
April 29, 2006Google is constantly advancing how its search engine works and the service it provides. We have recently noticed that Google now has a list of Search Features that are keeping the search engine fresh to make sure they stay the worlds No. 1 Search Engine.
Latest tools available are detailed fully here http://www.google.com/help/features.html they enable browsers to do more with a single search. Try typing in “movies” or “showtimes” it displays a new search box asking for your postcode. If you then type in you post code it will give you a list of Movies and the cinemas in the area which are showing them. There are many sites which will become redundant as they used to show information about cinema time etc.
What becomes apparent with a Feature like this is how Google can manipulate the results. And the big question is how far is Google going to take this? Google is the king of Natural Search and Organic listings and how it displays them is what makes Google, Google. However what else do Google have in the pipeline?
Restaurant Search? All Restaurant directories now become obsolete; or similar industries like hotels and accommodation. So how will this affect Just Search and the whole Search Engine Optimization community?
In the short term it just means that certain areas of client will be faded out as they will not require Optimisation. For SEO as a whole I am not worried. Google has got so large because of its roots around Natural Search. If Google were to move towards all Sponsored listings I think one of the other Search Engine or one of the New immerging search engines like http://www.kartoo.com will take of the role as leading Search tool , but Why?
The reasons why are simple, people like to have freedom and a Search engine that only uses Paid or sponsored websites takes away the freedom of the web.
We shall see how thing evolve.
