Google Toolbar 5 (BETA) for IE Launched
January 9, 2008The latest Google Toolbar update (version 5 BETA) is only available for Internet Explorer at this time.
The Google Toolbar 5 has been improved considerably, the layout and usability has changed for the better and brings a lot of new features:
I think the best new feature is that you can choose to save your settings on Google’s servers and access your toolbar settings from any computer. Everything including form filling settings, buttons and widgets used, etc… This is surely very helpful if you feel ok about having your personal information sent to Google’s servers. I personally think that there’s no risks with this feature in particular, however there are other toolbar features such as PageRank, Web History and Safe Browsing in Enhanced Mode which I would certainly disable as it logs information and keeps track of all web pages that you visit.
In line with the recent Google Notebook changes, the bookmarks and notebooks are now completely integrated in the toolbar too. This is great because there’s no need to have a separate plugin for notebook anymore.
Another great feature is that you can now create multiple AutoFill profiles enabling you for example to create a business profile and a personal profile with different email, telephone, email, etc.
The toolbar options interface it’s also much better now, it’s easier to navigate and there are more options which weren’t readibly available in previous versions.

It’s a shame that a Firefox version hasn’t been released yet. Ionut Alex Chitu from the Google Toolbar developers team stated that it has been launched for IE first because it has more users and that a Firefox version will be launched soon.
