Google OS coming soon?

With news that Google are launching “business versions” of their relatively new Ajax-powered office applications such as Google Docs and Google Notes, some in the SEO community are predicting they may soon take the next step and release a fully functional operating system to rival Microsoft’s Windows operating system.

Regarding this launch, the hosted premier service will enable companies to customise the look of the applications with their own logos, etc. and opt out of attaching Google ads to their documents, with additional charges incurred if they go over set storage capacities.

The initial free versions received generally positive feedback, and if the new enhanced versions are recieved in a similar way, the path will potentially open for Google to push for development of a full OS.

However, many SEOs are slightly pessimistic as to how successful they could be. As Microsoft struggle to compete with online applications in Google’s playing field, it is highly likely Google will struggle if they try to move into Microsoft’s area of expertise. It may prove interesting to follow this story, and you can be sure you will be updated here on any future activities.
