Custom Blogs? Don’t bother just use MSN
May 29, 2006That’s if you don’t want listings of course.
MSN have reported that its online blogging service, MSN Spaces has had nearly 100million hits over the last month. The blogging service that is connected to MSN Messenger allows users to create blogs and share pictures and is easily accessible to all users of Windows XP.
Now all the people I know that use both Messenger and Spaces use it for one thing, to share their pictures. And with over 6million pictures being uploaded to the service each day it seems that everyone else is using it pretty much for the same reason; this coupled with a blogging service and Microsoft seem to be on to a winner. However they are still falling short of News Corps MySpace community service that adds other services as well as a blog and picture upload offered by MSN.
To combat this over the next 12months Microsoft will be rolling out Windows Live to coincide with the release of Windows Vista and with it, Windows Live Spaces, surprise surprise… with added features to upgrade MSN.
For search purposes the online system is not really considered to be important due to the way that the whole spaces.msn.com domain is set up and the people it serves but MySpace users do get cached although they don’t get any listings as such. It goes to prove though that blogs are powerful even between friends. With online communities seeming to generate large amounts of traffic, coupled with online ad campaigns there are large sums of money to be made.
MySpaces homepage for instance pulled in on average $750,000 a day over March.
