When coding a web page it is important to remember that the larger the file, the longer the page will take to load. This seems to have been forgotten by web developers because the majority of internet users access websites through connections that are a lot faster than the old 56k standard.

Optimising your website’s page load time and page size will make it easier and quicker for search engine bots to go through your code, minimising any chance that the bot will leave without indexing some of your content. Having your website’s code as clean as possible means that your site stands a better chance of becoming an ‘authority’ site as it will be trusted by users and search engines alike.

If your site loads quicker, then users are likely to have a better web experience when using your site, which may lead to you getting more links than if your site was hard to use. Remember, Google does advise web developers to focus on user experience so by having a page that loads well is doing just that which Google may appreciate.

By cleaning up your code your are not only practising good seo, but you may also save yourself some money with your hosting provider. Most hosting plans charge for certain bandwidths and storage limits, so if you can make your page files as small as possible, you will be using less bandwidth and storage.
