This week we have noticed that Adwords ads on Google are now also showing images and as such are taking up much more space. They do this through a “show products from” box. So if you were to do a search, under the ad text itself would appear a plus symbol and the words “show products from”.
When you click to expand this it opens up the first three product listings from the company, each one with their own image. Amazingly the amount of space taken up by the expanded ad text is quite large indeed.
Below is an example of the ad text when it hasn’t been expanded.

Below is an example of the ad text when it’s in expanded view and as you can see it really does take up a fair amount of space.

These types of ads also show on the right hand side of the page too and these ones are better as they do not interfere with how the natural search results are displayed. Google has seemingly gone all out to make the user experience the best as possible.
It will be interesting to see what effect these changes when fully implemented will have and it will be good to see the effect on the conversion rate.

Google Analytics has added a number of new features to their analysis tool. The improvements are aimed at improving services for the expert and enterprise level customers.
Advanced Segmentation
This tool allows users to isolate and analyse specific segments of traffic. Basically, it’s a powerful filter tool that only needs a couple of mouse clicks to set. You can select from the existing segments, for example ‘paid traffic’ and ‘visits with conversions’ or create your own segment with the easy to use and flexible new segment builder. This segment can then be applied to current or historical data to compare performance. The reports can be viewed side by side to make analysis even easier.
Custom Reports
Chose the information and metric, organise it the way you want to view through a drag and drop interface and populate the report. This tool allows you to create, save and edit reports, allowing you to view specific data to your requirements. Multiple levels of reports can be seen through tab view, so you can flip from one report to another easily.
Motion Charts
By selecting metrics, size and colour, sophisticated multi-dimensional reports for analysis can be produced. Comparing metrics over time, data relationships can be exposed which may not have been noticeable in traditional reports. The motion chart application will be available through a new ‘Visualise’ button at the top of the reporting page.
Account Management Dashboard
Now Easier management and monitoring of accounts is possible through simpler navigation and profiles between accounts that displays key performance metrics straight away when you log in. The meaningful data gives clear visual cues in green and red to help alert you to specific areas that need attention. Also, the flexibility of the updated Analytics should increase account manager efficiency and usability of the application.
Data Export API
You can create software applications and programs that use read-only report data from Analytics. The data that is exported can be used in a range of ways, for example to build custom dashboards, data interfaces that can perform offline analysis and to combine data from other sources. The API platform will enable developers to extend Analytics data in practical ways.
Adsense Integrated Reporting
This application allows Adsense publishers to see their revenue, impression and traffic data alongside each other. This integration of data will give users extra metrics to measure visitor activity and performance. It could also help publishers to discover other areas of potential revenue for their sites.
