It is widely known in the world of <a href="http://www.justsearching.co.uk"title="SEO" >SEO that the approach to writing content for the internet is completely different to how you would go about writing for a newspaper, for instance. But it is more than that as each page of your site should be written to serve its own particular purpose.

By this I mean that your blog is written in a unique way that is nothing like your home page which is the landing page for most of your site’s visitors. The blog is written with a broader scope in mind as opposed to the incredibly focused home page. Then there are also category and product pages which are different yet again.

Writing relevant content

The overall aim of your site should be to build up pages that will draw people towards your site and appear higher in the search engine rankings. And if you want to ensure your site becomes an authority in its field, you need to ensure that all content is relevant to your particular industry.

This means that those who search through the rankings are able to find what they are looking for and if your site is relevant to their query then it should naturally build up a presence over time.

When you start to write your web content you need to bear the relevancy factor in mind, yet you also need to consider the purpose for the different areas of your website very carefully.

Writing blog posts and news articles

These blogs, when used in the correct manner, can bring in the traffic you are hoping to draw towards your site. However, you need to try and maintain a balance between writing content related to your products and services, while still managing to come up with informative and interesting articles for those looking to find out more about your industry.

It is fine to write on broader topic areas than you would on your home page or product / category pages but you still need to ensure the relevancy of the news you are publishing or the advice you are offering on the blog.

How writing product and category pages differs

As we have been explaining above, while you may be able to get away with writing copy on a broader scale for a blog or news section of the site, when it comes to your product pages you really need to ensure it is highly focused and informs the users what is contained on each specific page.

While proving to be useful for those who are scouring your site looking for what they need, this approach is also important in informing the search engines what products the page is specifically about. Therefore, get to the point and provide all the information a person would require to be persuaded the product is for them.

When writing category pages for the site you need to link a common theme between the products and items within this particular section. This should still be written while avoiding anything that is not relevant to the page in question.

Conclusion

Always remember, whatever you do, to make sure the content is written in a natural manner. Let the keywords be inserted into text on pages of the site without it looking like spam. You can still write relevant content which has a focus on the products and services you offer, but do it so it is easy for the user to read.

As we have mentioned time and time again, web users are impatient and unconventional folk with short attention spans who tend to scan pages on the internet rather than read them as you would with a newspaper. So, with this in mind, how do you grab their attention in the first place?

Well, when it comes to writing effective content for your blog and other web pages, it is highly important that you get your headings right. While there are many other things you also have to bear in mind, a good heading can be used to draw in interested readers and more importantly (if you run a business with an online presence) potential customers.

Over the course of this blog article, we will be looking at the key areas related to headings and the numerous ways they can be used to your advantage. This includes the use of sub-headings which are also important when used as signposts to lead the reader on to the next topic you wish to discuss.

Get the first few words right

Firstly, it is worth mentioning that no matter what type of heading you want to use to describe the contents of your article, whether this be a news piece or ‘How to’ guide, it is crucial to ensure that the start of the heading has been considered very carefully.

Research has been carried out by Jakob Nielsen, a web usability consultant, who carried out eye tracking studies on headings and links back in 2004. He found that “for headings-especially longer ones-it would appear that the first couple of words need to be real attention-grabbers if you want to capture eyes.”

It is all about the promises you make

The functioning of headings on the web is not too different from the usage of links. They are there to perform the duty of enticing users to continue with the article further by reading the rest of the content which offers them what was promised in the title. Or, in the case of a link, tempts them into clicking through to further content, assuring the user they will find what they are looking for there.

These signposts should therefore not be used to mislead or trick users as this will break the bond of trust between the interested reader and the company providing the content. Over time you can build up quite a loyal following from readers who see your site as an authority in your industry, but you can quite easily destroy all you have worked for by overpromising on your headings. Readers may not give your site a second chance.

The format of your headings

It is a commonly held belief in the world of web writing that headings should not really be any more than eight words long. If you take a quick look at the latest news headings on Google News for instance, you should find that most of them are eight words or less.

Don’t try to be too clever

By this I mean that you should treat your readers with a certain degree of respect. Most people nowadays are used to reading marketing and advertising speak and hate to see cliché-ridden content. But this does not mean that they cannot be action orientated. So, please repress your urge to write cheesy headings; they may seem quite catchy to you but could be a real turn-off for other web users.

Get to the point

Instead of coming across as too smart for your own good, you need to be clear and concise. Any vague and obscure headings will certainly not encourage readers to click on your article or continue scanning down the page. You need to succinctly describe what the essence of the article is all about.

Conclusion

In conclusion, you should write a compelling heading that focuses on the things that your customers and readers really care about and delivers on its promises. As I have stated above, when it comes down to headings for web writing, get to the point quickly – and be specific. Be sure to also use sub-headings to act as signposts, leading the reader through the article.

In this day and age where there is an overload of information, internet users don’t want to be spending their precious time searching around on the web for what they are looking for.

These impatient readers want to get the information fast and then move on to the next thing they have to do. This is what content writers need to bear this in mind when writing blog articles; you can’t assume people are going to read through masses and masses of text.

In the past, people may have been taught that patience is a virtue. Well, in the internet era, this is certainly more of a scarce commodity as most readers (unless they require in-depth information on a particular subject), do not have the inclination to scroll through chunks of text on one site, especially if there are plenty of alternatives available.

Fussy readers will show you no loyalty unless you have earned it and will soon move on to another website if their experience on your site is not what they had hoped. But attracting and retaining the interest of readers is indeed a challenge for all web writers, so you are not on your own.

With just seconds available to grab the attention of readers and a similarly short period of time for these website users to garner an understanding of the key points you are trying to get across, be sure to write with these readers in mind, making it easier for them to find the relevant information they are looking for. Do this by putting the most important points near the top of the page, while being clear and concise.

When you consider these things and ensure your website content is both interesting and relevant to your industry, you will have more of a chance to keep these impatient users on your website for longer – and hopefully gain many new customers for your products / services.

There are many different reasons for deciding to write a blog. It is something that is certainly not just a tool for commercial purposes, and can be used to meet a variety of goals. However, if you do happen to own an e-commerce website and do wish to draw in traffic to your site in order to sell your products; then be careful.

When you are writing it is perfectly fine to write articles with the key purpose of getting the reader’s attention and bringing them to your site, but you should not use these posts as another opportunity to promote your products and services. This is something that should be done on other dedicated areas of the website, leaving the blog to act as a doorway to what you have to offer.

Readers are (generally) not stupid, so you shouldn’t think that they won’t notice all the sales spiel when you present them with further details on what you have to sell. This is not what the blog should be there for. People don’t like to be told what to do, so you need to offer them something of more value.

You need to therefore make more of an effort to present readers with useful and relevant articles on your industry, drawing them to your site, and leave the decision on whether to buy the products up to them. This should help to ensure your site receives a greater volume of search traffic and increases the chances of making further sales.

In the past, those writing content for the Web thought they could get along by just including relevant keywords in their articles, and this would boost their site’s rankings. As search engines such as Google have evolved, and the Internet as a whole has expanded beyond recognition, more and more sophisticated techniques are required when writing online content.

There are a number of ways you can ensure that the content on your website is optimised for search engines and yet is not overtly crammed with keywords and crude link baiting techniques.

Those writing content for websites should steer away from a focus on keywords and concentrate their efforts more on making sure the blog post or web page reads well for the site’s readers. Search engines are becoming increasing more aware of sites with content that doesn’t flow naturally.

Simply by focussing on writing more relevant, interesting and compelling content, you will find that this is still the most important thing that is of most value overall. In turn, you will start to see an improvement in how your site is viewed by increasingly more intelligent search engines.

When you write a letter it will be different to how you would write a novel, for instance, or how you would go about writing an article for the local paper. How you approach your writing depends on the recipient and the purpose of your content. In the same way, writing blog articles for online readers requires a certain style of writing.

Most people write blogs to promote a product or service. This may not be directly related to getting readers to buy a certain item, but it can be an ideal marketing tool to get your site readers to discuss the topic and find out more about what you do. It all depends on what the aim of your business actually is, but the content you add to your website must be relevant and serve a purpose.

When writing a blog you need to consider your target audience and adapt your writing appropriately. It is widely known that online readers scan web pages differently to how they would read a book or the daily paper. Your website visitors will only read your pages if they are laid out well and easy to scan.

So, when writing articles for your blog, remember to use online writing techniques that are user-friendly to readers and this should encourage regular site visitors and will hopefully result in higher conversion rates too.

If you have a business that relies wholly or partly on online sales then the content on your company website needs to be of a high standard. And by this I don’t necessarily mean using big words and clever sentences. Writing for the web is completely different from writing traditional print articles, so it is important to populate your site with content that meets your online business goals.

It is a fact that site visitors tend to scan web pages instead of reading them carefully. Therefore, it makes sense to give some serious thought to the content you put on your site. If you do not have the in-house expertise to do this, then you should consider employing writers to write the relevant text for you.

The main reason for this is because your online sales are dependent on what you put on your website for your visitors to see. You need to write content about your products and services that will entice and engage visitors so they keep on browsing your site and may eventually become customers. You therefore need to ensure your site is easy to read (scan), makes sense and the information provided is relevant to your target market.

You will also need to provide content that is <a href="http://www.justsearching.co.uk"title="SEO" >SEO-friendly for better indexing and ranking with the search engines and this is yet another compelling reason why employing specialist internet writers to write good quality and focused content certainly makes sense for any business that relies on its online sales.

If your company depends on the business generated from your website – and let’s face it, most do to some extent nowadays – then the content you publish should be of paramount importance to you, as it is representative of all you stand for, in relaying your message and brand to your customers (and potential customers). Therefore, it is crucial that you don’t overlook this when spending a substantial amount of time and money creating the best-looking and most interactive website in your industry.

Your web content is the main reason users will visit your site and so your level of success can rise or fall depending on what is on your pages. If you want to remain in business and generate your fair share of site traffic, you need to remember that content is important and therefore should be considered very carefully.

To do this you may wish to provide interesting information about your products/services through a blog, becoming a strong resource for the latest news and happenings in your industry sector. You can also generate discussion on your blog and provide advice and guidance to your site’s users.

Think carefully about the quality (and quantity) of content on your site and you should start to notice a positive change in site traffic volumes, with users encouraged to visit your site on a regular basis.

Using images in your articles is certainly not a requirement, but there are countless advantages to using them on your blog. By adding images to your articles you will find that more people will click through to your site from Google News if you have been accepted into it.

If your blog has been accepted into Google News then you should optimise the images in your articles so Google can pick them up more easily, allowing the image to appear next to your link in the search results. But in order to do this and to get the most benefit from your article, you should aim to meet the requirements set out by Google.

The main things you need to remember when adding images to your blog posts are:

Try to use bigger images that are in proportion

Place the images near the top of the screen to link the image with the topic covered

Always save your images in the JPEG format

Think about your keywords when describing your image

Keeping these factors in mind should help Google to pick up your images and you should hopefully notice an increase in your click through rate from results pages.

When writing a blog for your website, your main aim should be to attract people to your page, people who are searching for something interesting to read and who will ultimately pay for your products and services. In reality, achieving this successfully is easier said than done. However, there are a few things to remember which can increase your chances of grabbing the reader’s attention and bring in traffic through your article.

Be specific with your title

When you are thinking about a title for your article, be as specific as possible. If you can accurately satisfy the needs of the reader with an interesting and relevant headline, this will probably be an improvement on most of the other titles available on the same subject. Avoid being general and vague.

Formatting headings

You can use bold for your headings and subheadings, but make sure you do not overuse it. Try not to get into the habit of using bold as a convenient way of drawing in the reader’s attention all through your text. Also, do not underline your headings as it can appear as if it is a hyperlink to the reader.

Use headings effectively

Use headings and sub-headings to break up big chunks of text. Sometimes it is necessary to include a lot of information, but headings can help to direct people and encourage them to read on.

There are many things you can do to bring traffic to your website but a good title is essential in helping ensure that you receive a high number of page views, while headings can summarise the points about to be made.
