All You Need To Know About The Google Keyword Tool

October 3, 2008

The Keyword Tool gives approximate search volume statistics showing the number of potential search queries based on last months figures and an average of previous months.
This information is helpful in planning what budget you will need to give a campaign as it will give you an idea of the cost and amount of traffic you could (if your budget was uncapped) receive. You may decide to structure your website so that the main traffic drivers are in the same adgroup so that you can make sure these words are converting for you. Obviously, you will pick words that are likely to drive quality traffic based on your set budget.
There are other factors to bear in mind:

  • For certain products and industries the search volume fluctuates seasonally or for certain events. This must be taken into account when planning your campaign and budget.
  • Campaigns can be targeted for specific geographical locations and languages. If the search is based only in the UK the search volume will be significantly smaller than if you chose to target the whole World. You must decide where your market lies and if your budget will cover the area you decide to target. If you only have a small budget a localized area can be targeted to ensure that you effectively penetrate your market, once you have seen a good return on investment you can target a wider area.
