Search Engine Optimisation Tools - November 20th, 2006

Here at Just Search we utilise many tools to help us analyse what work is needed to optimise a page. One of the key tools we use daily, and many of our clients will also use is Firefox (28.8% of internet users currently use Firefox). One of the main reasons we use this browser in preference to Internet Explorer (currently has a total market share of 60.6%) is Firefox has the ability to add extensions to its functionality.

Many of the extensions we use are freely available, and here is a short list of some of the added functionality we use within our Search Engine Optimisation work:

  • We use many of the developer functions incorporated into the web developer and the Firebug extensions
  • Other toolbars provide us with useful information as we view a clients website, for example hosting information, pagerank across multiple Google data centres (unlike the single data centre the Google toolbar uses) and numerous other features to allow us to check backlinks with many search engines
  • We also have tools that help us to quickly load the W3c validator, show the IP address of a webserver, and check the internet for duplicate content

We also utilise a lot of industry standard web developing packages to aid us in developing your website into its full potential, whilst reducing the time taken to make any code amendments that are required to optimise the page for the web spiders.

Multi Lingual Search engine optimisation - November 19th, 2006

When thinking about optimising your website for other countries and languages a major factor to get the right sort of traffic is your hosting. If you have a site which has a function to view the translated versions and Google has picked this information up then their is a chance that the translated versions will appear in Google searches for a given country but only for web searches or pages of a specific language. This means that your site will not appear for listings under pages from that country unless you are hosted in that GEO location.

This means that your site could be losing a lot of potential traffic.

So if your thinking of Multi lingual SEO, you should look at separating your site as different languages and then placing them as different domains relative to their respective GEO location and to make sure you get the right listings host the sites in the respective countries.

There are other factors to think about when looking at Multi lingual SEO, but the above is a good place to start.
