SEO - Google Blog Search - March 28th, 2006

The number of blogs on the internet has grown to phenomenal numbers over the past few years, and many of them are valuable resources for up-to-the-minute information. Of course, with the sheer number of blogs on the web, it was only a matter of time before the search engines created specialised blog searches to help filter the good from the bad. Unsurprisingly, Google was the first to release a dedicated blog search service, and although it has been available for several months, it is still relatively unknown.

Take at look http://blogsearch.google.com/ and try typing in a keyword phrase you are familiar with. If for example you type in “Search Engine Optimisation”, which is a phrase which is highly relevant to the theme of our website, you will notice that approximately 80% of the entries on the first page of results are for Just Search.

Look closely at the listings and you will notice a common theme. I’m not going to disclose what that theme is as I would like you to work it our for yourselves, but the point I’m trying to make is that it is not only important to optimise your main web pages, but also pay particular attention to your blog

Kinderstart gets dropped, Lack of Search Engine Optimisation Maybe? - March 27th, 2006

I’m not one to speculate but with the recent announcement of Kinderstart.com suing Google over lack of listings one has to begin to wonder how can these natural listings we base our business on stay natural.

KinderStart, a web based parental advise site, are taking legal action against the no.1 search engine due to lack of traffic and therefore loss of custom as a result of being dropped from the top of the listings. The suit that has has been filed by KinderStart puts the impression across that once a company/site has been penalized, it is difficult to ask Google to why they took such action.
In my opinion natural listings are all about a formula that Google has patented. To get up the natural listings you follow the formula and don’t step outside its boundaries. It’s hard to prove that any loss in custom is in any way related to your position in the world’s leader in web search. Hard to prove but everyone knows it is true. Whether or not Kinderstart.com stepped out of Google’s boundaries and broke the rules is not my place to stay, nor do I know enough about the whole situation to determine if KinderStart do have a leg to stand on.

One thing is for sure, if the case goes away from Google what is to say that their natural listings won’t become as regulated or managed as pay-per-click.

Here at Just Search we strive ourselves on making sure that our clients websites follow the rules, especially the ones laid out by Google. We realise that as the no.1 search engine the position of clients under their phrases can have a dramatic effect on inbound sales. This is why we always aim to push sites up its natural listings.

All I can say is watch this space for more news on the KinderStart vs. Google case.

On another note; President Bush has recognised Blogs as being a new addition to the ever growing world of media and communication. Speaking last week at a rally in support of the Iraq war, President Bush commented on how weblogs are fast becoming a new alternate way of receiving information on the benefits of the war as the mainstream media in America is only concentrating on letting the American people know about the bad.
