As every search engine optimiser knows, PageRank is Google’s measure of how important a web page is, and plays an important role in determining where a page will be positioned for any given search term. PageRank is determined by the number and quality of incoming links to your website, and building links is crucial to the success of a website.
Those of you who are regular readers of this blog may remember a previous entry of mine entitled “funnelling PageRank”, which described how internal link structure can be manipulated to increase the PageRank of a site’s home page. If you wish to do this, there is a handy tool that can help - the “PageRank decoder”, which can be found at http://www.search-this.com/pagerank_decoder. This is very helpful for understanding how PageRank can “flow” between pages and can help you find the best link structure for your site within minutes. However, this decoder is far from perfect: it becomes easily confused when dealing with high PR pages, as it does not take the exponential nature of PageRank into account; but despite this flaw, the PageRank decoder is a very useful (and very novel) tool.

So the big question still poses in our industry? Which are better natural listings or Adwords accounts?
To those of you who don’t know supplying Google Adwords accounts is basically how Google make their money. People and companies pay to be shown in the ‘Sponsored Links’ section of the page listing for a certain keyword or phrase. Basically every time someone clicks on a link within this section the company paying for the link has to pay Google. This method is better known as Pay per Click.
Natural listings on the other hand are what we at Just Search specialise in. They are the non pay per click listings often shown under the ‘Sponsored Links’ section of a search page. The way we get our clients up these listings is by following a very strict method of optimisation on their pages.
So which is better? Who would come out best in an Adwords vs. Natural Listings fight? Well the answer is, it depends on your current model of website marketing. The majority if our clients are small to medium businesses that don’t really want to be spending their hard earned profits on links.
Whereas at the other scale there are the larger business who have no qualms about this extra costs.
So in a fight sense it would probably be a stalemate. We do however have to push the Natural listings route because that’s our business. In our eyes saving customer’s money is the way forward and we are always striving to do just that.
